Skull Car

Whilst perusing the net for a skull I found that Herbie the famous beetle has a darker side. Ok I made that up but I have a feeling this may be what the artist was intending, a kinda darker and filthier Herbie. This illustration was created by Arthur d’ ARAUJO and is also featured as a part of a bigger composition featuring a sexy rock chick.

Both of these skulls are available as prints and other products on Society 6

Jacob Dahlstrup Graphite Skull (s)

I was first introduced to Danish artist Jacob Dahlstrup quite awhile ago with his Flora Skull piece. An amazingly intricate massive graphite drawing of skull that is essentially a mass of plants. This behemoth took 100hrs to create and I can only imagine how many times his hand and mind went numb living at the tip of the pencil.

Jacob has a stunning portfolio with an array of graphite drawings, some of them like the Eclipse involved using something called sanguine. I had no clue what this was but I can let you know now (thanks Wiki) that sanguine is red chalk. His work varies in style from strong geometric shapes to the wonderfully textured craters on the moon.

He also has some sublime graphite drawings on animal skulls that were curated in bell jars (love those things) and various other skull pieces dotted about his portfolio.

Ball-point Skull Illustrations by Remi Andron

These insanely intricate ball-point pen skull illustrations were created by French illustrator Remi Andron and man are they awesome. One of these illustrations even has a skull on a the aptly named Deaths Head Hawkmoth which will forever be creepy for me as it was in the film Silence of the Lambs (plucking the chrysalis out the corpses throat).

Stop Motion Drawing: Skull by Paul Alexander Thornton

We’ve featured some of Paul’s work before and we absolutely love his skulls. This stop-motion video is great and shows you how he creates an amazing skull illustration using a ball point pen.

BIG FUCK OFF SKULL

I will often spend more time than necessary banging out possible names for illustration pieces instead of telling it how it is. TWIY has no such compunctions as clearly shown in the naming of this intricate skull piece titled ‘BIG FUCK OFF SKULL’.

This design was destined to become a large scale metallic gold ink print on black stock. Hopefully TWIY (London based artist Alex Chappell) will let us know if this happened. With any luck it did because this is one glorious skull.

I recommend checking out his other work on his Flickr account and reading the testimonials, especially the one by HICKS (54). Funny shit.

Enkidu and Gilgamesh

One of my favourite artists Joau Ruas AKA Feral Kid has an amazing talent and his art is always inspiring. He is sometimes confused with James Jean, who have both have worked on Fable covers at sometime in their lives. If James Jean is the day then Joao Ruas is the night.

This skull design is entitled Enkidu and Gilgamesh and is just a glimse of the mans immense talent. This is the only skull I have seen him create, maybe there are others I have not seen but at least we have this one on Skull Appreciation Society. This skull design was at one stage available for purchase but as this is a relatively old piece, it has subsequently sold out. Shit balls.
